MONTEVIDEO, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang said here Tuesday that China and Uruguay should implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, and build on the positive momentum in bilateral relations to bring more benefits to both countries and their peoples.
Ding, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks when meeting with Uruguayan Vice President Carolina Cosse during a visit to the country.
Ding said that although separated by vast oceans, China and Uruguay enjoy a long history of exchanges and are good friends and partners with deep mutual understanding. Under the strategic guidance of the heads of state of the two countries, political mutual trust between the two sides has been deepening day by day, and cooperation in various fields has been steadily advancing, he added.
He said that China appreciates Uruguay's long-term, firm adherence to the one-China principle and believes that both sides will continue to firmly support each other on issues concerning their respective core interests and major concerns.
Noting that the Chinese and Uruguayan economies are highly complementary and have great potential for cooperation, Ding said that the two sides should continuously expand investment and economic and trade cooperation.
China is willing to import more high-quality agricultural and animal husbandry products from Uruguay that meet market demands, while encouraging more Chinese-funded institutions to invest in Uruguay, Ding said, expressing hope that Uruguay will provide a favorable business environment for Chinese enterprises.
He said that the two sides should fully tap their potential, promote green technology and industrial cooperation to deepen and become more practical, and jointly create new growth points for practical cooperation.
Ding said China has always viewed its relations with Latin American and Caribbean countries from a strategic height and a long-term perspective, adding that China stands ready to work with Uruguay and other Latin American countries to implement the five programs, ranging from solidarity, development and civilization to peace and people-to-people connectivity, jointly seek development and rejuvenation, and build a China-Latin America community with a shared future.
For her part, Cosse said that China is an important partner of Uruguay and that friendship with China is a consensus and policy that transcends all parties in the country. Uruguay admires China's achievements in economy, science and technology, green development and other fields, and is willing to enhance experience exchanges and deepen practical cooperation with China, she said.
Cosse said that today's world needs multilateralism more than ever, adding that Uruguay is willing to walk alongside China and strengthen bilateral and multilateral cooperation for the benefit of the two peoples. ■
